October at ART321

Good Company, Little Art, and a Little Halloween Magic at ART321

Hello, friends!

What a wonderful way to welcome October! Thank you to everyone who joined us for brunch this past weekend.
The music was perfect, the food was great, and the best part? The company.

There’s something special about seeing ART321 filled with people sharing a meal, enjoying the art, and catching up with friends. Thank you for spending part of your weekend with us and making it such a lovely morning.
Out of the 60+ people who were there, we received requests from at least 25 for Brianna’s fall salad recipe, so you’ll find it at the bottom.

And if you’re already looking forward to our next gathering, you won’t have to wait long. October has plenty in store!
Those who say there just aren’t things to do in Casper, Wyoming…are wrong.

Small Art. Big Night.

Postcards & Pint-Sized is coming up October 17, and tickets are nearly sold out! If you’ve been meaning to get yours, now is the time.

We’ll have tiny original artwork to discover, music, food, drinks, and plenty of good company. Wander the gallery, find a favorite piece, and place a bid on something you’d love to take home.

Whether you come for the art, the evening out, or the chance to spend time with friends, we’re looking forward to sharing another fun night with our ART321 community.

A Little Strange, a Little Spooky

Halloween is finding its way into the gallery, too.

Throughout October, 18 Casper College Three-Dimensional Design students are sharing sculptures that explore fear through Halloween traditions. Students started by making molds of their own bodies and casting them in plaster, then combined those hands and faces with other materials to create something personal, playful, and sometimes unsettling.

We’re excited to give these emerging artists a place to share their work and experience presenting it in a professional gallery. Come take a closer look; you’ll find something different in every piece.

Our Halloween Pop-Up runs October 21–31, bringing even more seasonal creativity from community artists into ART321. Expect ghosts, goblins, witches, strange creatures, and a few surprises. With the Casper College sculptures and the pop-up, there will be plenty of reasons to stop in and enjoy the wonderfully weird.

Halloween Around Downtown

The fun continues beyond our gallery doors!

Cauldron Crawl returns October 29 from 4–8 p.m., celebrating women-owned businesses throughout Downtown Casper. Dress up, grab your enchantment passport, and explore downtown while collecting stamps, treats, and a little magic along the way.

And keep Downtown Trick or Treat on your October calendar; it’s actually ON HALLOWEEN this year!
October 31st, from 10a - 12p, come trick or treat with us.
We’re looking forward to seeing the costumes and enjoying another chance to welcome families downtown. Make ART321 part of your Halloween adventures.

Make Something This Month

If all this spooky creativity has you wanting to make something yourself, join us for our Halloween Haunted House workshop on October 8 from 6–8 p.m.

You’ll decorate your own Halloween house, and the workshop is free for ART321 members or $55 for non-members. There are only 3 spots left, so be sure to register now.

There are plenty of other ways to get creative this month, too, from watercolor and mixed media to clay, sculpting, and a lunchtime junk journal club. You don’t have to arrive knowing exactly what you’re doing. Come try something and see where it takes you.

One More Look…and Something to Take Home

This is the last week to see Dan Abernathy’s exhibit and the Rendezvous exhibit. If you haven’t visited yet, make a little time to enjoy both before they come down.

While you’re here, take a stroll through the gift shop. Fall has brought us new pottery, jewelry, original art, cozy finds, and a few witchy and spooky things. Every purchase supports artists and ART321, and you might find something you didn’t know you needed until you saw it.

Thank you for everything you do for this community. Every visit, class, purchase, and friend you bring through our doors helps make ART321 a place where people feel welcome and creativity belongs to everyone.

Fall Sweet Potato & Wheat Berry Salad with Honey Citrus Vinaigrette

Ingredients

Salad

 • 2–3 cups sweet potatoes, cut into 1-inch cubes

 • 1 cup wheat berries

 • ½ cup dried cranberries

 • ½ cup chopped pistachios

 • ½ cup crumbled feta or goat cheese

 • 2 cups spring mix

 • Honey Citrus Vinaigrette, to taste

Honey Citrus Vinaigrette

 • ¼ cup fresh squeezed orange juice

 • 1–2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

 • 2 tablespoons honey

 • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar

 • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

 • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

 • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

 1. Roast the sweet potatoes:
Preheat the oven to 425°F. Spread the cubed sweet potatoes on a baking sheet and roast for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender and lightly browned. Let cool.

 2. Cook the wheat berries:
Bring 2 cups of salted water to a simmer. Add the wheat berries and cook for about 45 minutes, or until tender. Drain any excess water and let cool.

 3. Make the vinaigrette:
Whisk together the orange juice, garlic, honey, apple cider vinegar, and Dijon mustard. Slowly whisk in the olive oil until emulsified. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

 4. Assemble the salad:
In a large bowl, combine the cooled sweet potatoes and wheat berries with the dried cranberries, pistachios, and feta or goat cheese. Add the spring mix.

 5. Dress and serve:
Toss with the honey citrus vinaigrette until everything is just lightly coated. Serve immediately.

Make-Ahead Tip

The salad can be prepared in advance, but wait to add the spring mix until serving. The sweet potato and wheat berry mixture (with the cranberries, pistachios, vinaigrette and cheese) will keep well in the refrigerator for about a week. It is also yummy without the spring mix!
